House passes bill suspending debt ceiling; delegation splits

On Jan. 23, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to suspend the nation's statutory borrowing limit for several months, through May 18. The House measure would also require lawmakers in both the House and Senate to pass a budget resolution by April 15 or have their pay withheld until they do so.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said his chamber will pass the House bill without changes, and the White House has indicated that it will not block the legislation from becoming law.

Oklahoma's House delegation was split on the issue. Reps. Cole, Lankford and Lucas voted in favor of the bill (H.B. 325), while the two Oklahoma Freshment (Jim Bridenstine and Markwayne Mullin) voted against it.
