Community commitment awards deadline approaching

At its annual convention in New Orleans, the American Bankers Association will present its annual Community Commitment Awards. These awards will recognize and celebrate the innovative and high impact contributions banks of all sizes make to the communities they serve. Entries must be submitted by June 28, 2013.

The Community Commitment Awards for 2013 will recognize excellent projects and programs in six categories:

  • Affordable Housing - Safe, affordable housing is a key element in invigorating and improving the quality of life in a community.
  • Small Business Lending - By providing essential products and services, and creating jobs that return dollars to the neighborhood, small businesses play a critical role in sustaining strong, dynamic communities that encourage residents and institutions to thrive.
  • Economic Development - Revitalizing low- and moderate income neighborhood commercial districts to enable local businesses to thrive and residents to take advantage of conveniently located goods and services can take many forms.
  • Financial Education - Financial education efforts led by bankers, among the most knowledgeable in this area, can set children, youth and their families on the road to home ownership, saving for college and realizing other financial goals.
  • Volunteerism and Philanthropy - Donations of time, money and resources from banks and their employees are the lifeblood of numerous community-based initiatives, from programs directly serving residents to foundations supporting proposals to enhance the community's quality of life.
  • NEW! Sustainable Banking. - A community's future stability and economic prosperity depends on how it manages its built environment and natural resources today. Safe playgrounds for children, green spaces for recreation, accessible facilities for community activities, housing and businesses that use resource-conserving materials and technologies—all are elements in creating and sustaining a thriving community.

The awards will be judged by a panel of experts in these fields. Award winners will be honored during ABA's Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, October 2013. All awardees will receive a complimentary registration to the convention.
