Guide to the government shutdown

As of midnight on Oct. 1, the first government shutdown since 1996 took place. With this shut down, several agencies are closing all but essential operations. Federal banking regulators – the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, FDIC, Federal Reserve and OCC – will remain open as their funding does not come from congressional spending.

The Washington Post has put together an excellent guide to the shutdown, explaining what it does and doesn't mean.
