Financial Literacy
The OBA works closely with other organizations who share the goal of arming Oklahomans with the knowledge they need to make the wise financial decisions necessary for a secure future. For more information about these and other opportunities for involvement, contact Margo Ward at the OBA.

Financial Literacy Programs

- America's Promise - Throughout the nation, banks of every size have teamed up with public, private and not-for-profit organizations with one clear goal in sight: to empower today's youth so that they can secure a better future for themselves tomorrow. More than 100 Oklahoma banks have made a commitment to America's Promise, has yours? If your bank is or will be involved in youth-related activities in your community, all you have to do is promise to increase those activities by at least 10% in the next year!

- Get Smart About Credit Day - Get Smart About Credit is a program created by the ABA Education Foundation that makes it easy to provide valuable and much-needed credit education to 15- to 25-year-olds. It's an engaging, interactive experience that puts young adults on the right financial track. And that's good news for everybody. Get Smart About Credit helps consumers understand the importance of good credit and how to manage it wisely. Get Smart About Credit resource kits are available from the ABA.

- Jump$tart Your Money Week - Jump$tart Your Money Week is a statewide, coordinated effort of the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition and its members to raise awareness of financial education issues in Oklahoma. JYM Week provides an opportunity for local community organizations, government agencies, financial institutions, schools, universities, corporations and others concerned with the financial education skills of Oklahomans to plan and cooperatively market a wide range of educational events.

- Money in Motion - Money in Motion is a financial literacy program designed to help teachers educate their students on basic financial skills. Targeted to students in grades 7-12 and using reproducible handouts and problem-solving exercises, the materials cover a broad range of subjects.

- National Teach Children to Save Day - Each year, thousands of bankers across the country visited the schools in their communities to teach young people the financial facts of life on Teach Children to Save Day, a financial literacy program sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation and supported by the OBA.
