Week of March 4

In This Issue…

From Adrian’s desk …

By Adrian Beverage
OBA President & CEO

Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

•        •         •

The first deadline during the state legislative session was this past weekend and it shows as our tracking list of bills was significantly whittled down. As you can see, however, there’s still a plethora of legislation out there to keep an eye on and we’ll remain diligent for the banking industry.

•        •         •

The House Republican Caucus designated Rep. Kyle Hilbert as the next speaker of the House. Hilbert, 29, who hails from Bristow, will be the youngest speaker of the House in Oklahoma history when he takes the reins after the House’s formal vote in November.

Hilbert will join fellow Republican Greg McCortney, who will take over as Senate president pro tempore next session, as the new leaders of the Oklahoma legislature.

Things rarely go according to plan, ESPECIALLY when dealing with Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball. The ‘Huskers fell to coach-less Ohio State on Thursday to begin three game stretch that I mentioned last week I’d sure like to see them sweep. They did manage to topple Rutgers on Sunday and visit a swooning Michigan team this coming weekend, so maybe Meat Loaf was correct in saying two out of three ain’t bad.

OBA education corner …

It’s March, which means it’s officially spring! Well, at least “meteorological spring.” We find it too confusing to figure out the exact dates when the seasons start, so we follow the meteorological seasons! So March = spring! Easy enough! While deciphering all that, take a little the time to check out our upcoming continuing education opportunities!
