Week of July 1

From Adrian’s desk …

By Adrian Beverage
OBA President & CEO

Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

I had the opportunity to hit the road on Monday and visit some banks, joined by coworkers Janis Reeser and Jeremy Cowen.

We made our first stop of the day at the First National Bank of Fletcher, where we presented the bank’s president and CEO, Bob Bridges, with his OBA 50-Year Club induction plaque. Bob couldn’t make it to the awards brunch at convention back in May, so we were happy to take the opportunity to visit with him while bringing his plaque. While there, we found out we were visiting on the ACTUAL DAY of his 50th anniversary of starting in the banking industry!

Congratulations, Bob!

It’s probably a good thing I hit the road to visit some banks on Monday. When I walked into my office early that morning, we’d obviously had some electrical issues at the OBA headquarters. My office looked like a disco dance floor!

Join us at the Club OBA next chance you get, we play the best songs!

The college sports season is behind us and we’ve settled into the dog days of summer. Nominally, I’m a Chicago Cubs fan, and for a few precious weeks there, it looked like I’d have something to keep my attention this summer, at least until football starts back up. Well, then the Cubs started … Cubs-ing. They’ve lost seven of their last 10 and reside soundly in last place in the division.

FHFA, CFPB update mortgage origination data

The Federal Housing Finance Agency and the CFPB released updated loan-level data on Monday, collected through the National Survey of Mortgage Originations.

The 2024 release – the first since December 2022 – includes data on three new survey questions first fielded in 2021.

The latest survey release shows that 70% of respondents said they were very satisfied with their property appraisal and 23% were somewhat satisfied, with just 6% not satisfied. Half of borrowers surveyed expressed unwillingness to move from their primary residence, with a quarter willing and able, 5% willing but unable and 20% not sure.

Oklahoma agencies to host virtual Fraud Prevention Conference

The FBI Oklahoma City Field Office, Oklahoma Insurance Department and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office are holding their second annual Fraud Prevention Conference virtually over three days in July.

The conference will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on July 12, July 19 and July 26. The OBA’s Sharon Lewis will be one of the speakers on July 19. This conference is free but does requires registration.

With so many scams targeting our seniors, this is an excellent opportunity for financial institutions to host a virtual “watch party” in their communities.  Click here to sign up.  Once registered, you will receive a Zoom link for online viewing.

OBA TikTok Time …

Welcome to the continuation of our semi-regular feature in the OBA Update: OBA TikTok Time!

The OBA created a TikTok account to feature fun, entertaining little video segments that feature our bankers and those who work with them. No, you don’t have a TikTok account to view these short videos as you can navigate directly there just by using the link we provide here in the OBA Update. For those concerned about security via TikTok, you can also easily view the videos through our Instagram account.

We’ll feature our most recent TikToks each week in the TikTok Time of the OBA Update. For this week’s edition, the OBA recently hosted a meeting of the Bank Fraud Investigators Group. With that in mind, OBA TikTokTime couldn’t resist asking these crime fighters whom their favorite fictional counterparts are!

OBA education corner …

Cover bands are fun! Especially when they’re covering songs or artists you know and love! Over the weekend, a George Strait cover band performed in Chickasha and some of us here at the OBA had the opportunity to be in the audience. After more than 110,000 attended a George Strait concert last month, it was perfect timing, and the band didn’t disappoint … especially when the fiddle player (seen here wrapping up Strait’s 1997 hit, I Can Still Make Cheyenne) is an old college freshman dorm buddy! Well done, Dr. Jason Breed! While reminiscing about good music and good times in college, here’s some upcoming OBA education opportunities you could also think about! Take the following for example:
