Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

I’m on the road today, headed south to Austin, Texas, for a meeting of the National Association of Banking Advocates. It should be an insightful get-together, but I am hoping to get down there before the infamous Austin traffic swallows me whole at rush hour!

As a football fan, I found the news that the NFL’s Washington Commanders had sold the naming rights to its stadium to a credit union rather distasteful. ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols obviously agrees with my sentiment, as he wrote a scathing letter to the editor in the Washington Post last week. The Post is behind a paywall, so if you don’t have a subscription, you can read the gist of the letter here.

That was fun on Saturday! My ‘Huskers remain undefeated with a creaming of Colorado, and have moved into the top 25 poll for the first time since 2019! What a time to be alive, and to wear the red and white of Nebraska!
Oklahoman appointed to CDFI board
An Oklahoma banker was named, on Friday, to join the Community Development Advisory Board, which advises the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund on policies regarding its activities and programs.
Hulbert banker Susan Chapman Plumb, chair and CEO of Local Bank, in Hulbert, was one of four new appointees. She joins the 15-member board, which is appointed by President Joe Biden.
“I am pleased to congratulate and welcome this esteemed group of professionals who share the CDFI Fund’s vision of an America in which all people and communities have access to the investment capital and financial services they need to prosper,” said CDFI Fund Director Pravina Raghavan.
‘Thank you’, from the OBA Compliance School Board chair …

OBA Compliance School Board Chair
I would like to give my sincerest thanks to the 2024-25 OBA Compliance School Board members.
This year, each board member rallied around our biggest project and made it a tremendous success. Without all of your hard work and willingness to make a difference, the OBA Compliance School would not have been what it was. Your passion and dedication are appreciated and did not go unnoticed. I look forward to working with you all next year. It was truly my pleasure to serve as the chair this year.

OBA Emerging Leaders Academy accepting applications – deadline approaching!
Take note the OBA 2024-25 Emerging Leaders Academy is currently accepting applications, with the deadline fast approaching on Sept. 16.
We’re looking for the best and brightest bankers who seek to sharpen their leadership skills. The Academy will help you reach new heights with powerful speakers offering information leaders need for effectively maneuvering in today’s business climate. Each session helps participants become true leaders by understanding those around you through non-traditional methods.
The OBA extends an invitation to any employee of a bank that is a member of the OBA to apply. A panel of bankers will review the applicants and choose those accepted into the Academy (maximum 30 bankers). Participants must attend all sessions to successfully graduate from the program.
There are six sessions to the Academy: Nov. 6, Dec. 5, Jan. 24, Feb. 26, March 28, April 25. Graduation will take place in May 2025 at the OBA Annual Convention.
