Take opportunity to know lieutenant governor candidate

The OBA, in its continuing effort this year to let our bankers know more about candidates in important races, wants to share some background on the lieutenant governor race.

Last week, we provided an opportunity to meet Republican candidate Matt Pinnell. Today, we wanted to highlight his opponent in the upcoming Republican runoff, Dana Murphy.

The below was provided by Murphy’s campaign office and Murphy herself:

Dana Murphy, a fifth-generation Oklahoman, has had a diverse career path that includes serving as a corporation commissioner for almost 10 years, and previously owning and operating her own businesses as a geologist and also an attorney.

She has lived and worked in the Oklahoma City-metro area while still being actively engaged in her family’s farm and ranch outside of Woodward. Peers and colleagues recognize her as proven leader and problem solver, known for getting things done.

As current chairman of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, Murphy knows firsthand how decisions on electricity, oil and gas development, pipeline safety and other economic areas affect the everyday lives of individuals and businesses across Oklahoma. Her rural and urban background, significant private sector experience and public sector experience provide a strong foundation for partnering with the new governor and others to create lasting solutions that address the roots of long-standing problems.

Murphy has represented Oklahoma on local, regional and national levels at numerous events and panels as an energy and policy expert. She currently serves on more than a dozen boards and commissions, including the Regional State Committee of the Southwest Power Pool and the Financial Research Institute. She has significant community service experience serving on the Salvation Army Central Command board for over eight years and serving a second term as a trustee at the Church of the Servant Methodist Church.

Oklahoma is at a crossroads. A better path forward will involve greater collaboration among a diverse mix of individuals and ultimately, tough decisions. Murphy believes it is time to greater utilize the office of the lieutenant governor to work with others on issues involving the budget, education and economic diversification, to name a few. Her proven experience, unique skills and unmatched work ethic are what Oklahoma needs now.
